Solutions for using your remote with cupboard doors closed.?

I heard there is a device with a remote "eye" you drill into the wood. From this unit there are several wires. Each one of these will somehow extend to and turn on the DVD, TV, Theatre System Apple TV etc whithout having to open the cupboard doors. Anyone hear of this? What is it called and who makes it?

Answer:

The Xantech IR system is an effective but inexpensive choice for what you want to do. If you do this you should consider removing the back of the area the components sit in to allow for cooling of the components and to facilitate easier hook up. If the back is important to maintaining the structural integrity of the cabinet you should at least cut out most of the area in the back of each component that generates heat. What it does is simply forward on the signals from your remotes. It picks up the signal and relays it from the IR LEDs inside, which are closer to your TV etc.

It%26#39;s called an Infrared Relay I think. Search eBay/Google for that phrase. Are you sure you want to do that? I don%26#39;t know what is in your cupboard but at least the amp needs airflow to cool down and you%26#39;re not going to get it with the doors closed. you must plug it in i dont knw

Sony A/V Receiver Clicking?

I have a 5.1 Sony A/V Receiver that I bought in 1999. Lately it will begin to click very rapidly and then the center and surround channels will cut out. It will click again and then all channels will be playing. It will repeat this sequence all night. I checked the speaker connections in the back and everything is hooked up correctly, without speaker wires touching. FYI, I am using both the A + B front speakers.

Is this something that I can easily fix? Throw it away?

Answer:

It sounds like the relay is malfunctioning.

Open up the case and locate the faulty relay by tracing the clicking noise.

Then turn off the power and identify the relay part number.

Look up Digikey to see if it is available for purchase. It shouldn %26#39;t cost more than $10.

With some soldering skill, you should be able to replace it yourself.

Good Luck

Sony dvd not playing?

some new prerecorded movies, using sony discs are not playing on my Harden Karmon player, other people have complained, useing different machines. Harmon Karmon tells me sony is doing something different in manufacuring their discs. Now I have to be selactive on whitch movies I rent. Whats going on? And is Sony addressing this problem?

Answer:

Its Sony%26#39;s way of protecting their content from piracy. Unfortunately it won%26#39;t change, in fact it will probably get worse. Sorry but you need a better DVD player.

Sony Home Theater System Shorts At High Volume, Why?

My Sony Dream System (FR 1, I think) shorts out at loud moments if the volume is about 20 or over. I then have to unplug and plug back in. I can stop the shorting if I keep the volume down, but it%26#39;s too quiet. Any ideas?

Answer:

I don%26#39;t think that it is shorting out. I think your amp is trying to put out more than it has to offer. When you unplug it, you reset the protective circuit that has tripped from excessive volume.

Since the speakers are integral, there is no mismatch impedance-wise. It sounds like you want a more powerful system, and that means trading up to a more powerful unit.

The statement "loud moments" is the giveaway here. If it were doing it consistently, then I would say there might be something wrong. Don%26#39;t forget, this is a compact system, and you can%26#39;t get huge amounts of sound out a compact.

See if your dealer will accept it in return for a bigger unit.

Good luck!

I%26#39;m sorry, I have to respond to the earlier answer. It is way out there.

Speaker systems with a divider network are neither parallel or series, the network divides the spectrum. Even if a capacitor is all that is in line with the tweeter, it doesn%26#39;t change the impedance. (At the frequencies that the capacitor removes from the tweeter, the impedance is infinite, so there is no "parallel" connection. Past the woofer resonant frequency [going up in frequency] the impedance begins a steady rise, so that the net effect is consistent impedance) There are a lot of reasons for this, that go way beyond the scope of answering your question.

Sony KDL46S2000 46" Bravia Flat Panel LCD HDTV has only one hdmi connection, does that mean I c

can I only hook up my digital cable to the hdmi and not a digital dvd? and if thats the case what should I hook up the dvd to?

Answer:

Well check to see if your cable box or dvd player has hdmi input and output. If that%26#39;s the case you can caddy them together. Read the owners manual You could use component to hook up the DVD or component on your cable and HDMI for the DVD... OR you could get an AV receiver and plug it up to the TV using HDMI and plug the DVD and cable to the AV receiver using HDMI! As you can see there are many different ways to get around your problem. If you want everything that has an HDMI connection to be able to be hooked up via HDMI then you will need to get some sort of equipment that can switch HDMI. That can be a new A/V receiver with HDMI switching capabilities or with a stand alone HDMI switcher. However, since component video supports HD, you may want to consider using it as a cheaper alternative.
